About Milal

History and Program

Milal, meaning “a kernel of wheat” in South Korean, was founded in 1979 by Dr. Jae Lee in South Korea. The organization has been serving people with disabilities in South Korea (and now globally) since then. Over the years, Milal Mission has grown to become a global organization reaching out to people with disabilities worldwide, including in the United States, Canada, Europe, South America, China, India, and Russia.

Milal Mission in Richmond was founded in January 2009 by Rev. Jinwook Oh who supervised as minister until September 17, 2016. Since then, Rev. Paul (Hyongsoon) Seo has taken over as the new minister and presidential representative.

Mission Statement

Milal Mission started with three clear objectives:

Evangelism: spreading the gospel to people with disabilities

Service: providing them with the help they need

Education: educating the church and the society about disabilities.

Donations and Volunteer Work

Donations and volunteers are crucial to Milal Mission. The success of the ministry depends on donations from churches, individuals, and volunteers who are dedicated to the mission. To become a volunteer with Milal Mission, you must be in 7th grader or higher; a brief interview may also be required. The organization awards certificates for student volunteers.

Charitable contributions to Milal Mission are tax deductible. The organization sends an annual financial statement to each donor for tangible proof.

Milal Mission humbly asks for your prayers and your kind interest in our mission, even if you cannot volunteer or donate to our cause.

Please leave your contact information and name under contacts if you are someone:

  • With disabilities who want to attend Milal Richmond
  • Who wants to volunteer
  • Who wants to receive a “Milal & World” newsletter
  • Who wants to donate (please address the money to “Milal Mission in Richmond”)
