Class of Agape

This service is for people with disabilities in the Korean American community who reside in Richmond, VA. It is an educational program for people with disabilities. Every Saturday, from 11:00 A.M. to 2:30 P.M., people with disabilities meet with well-trained volunteers for worship, lunch, and hands-on activities designed to cater towards people with disabilities. Activities include a combination of therapy, art, music, and play with professional volunteers.

Milal Agape Camp

Every year, on the month of July, people with disabilities and volunteers come together to spend two nights and three days of Milal Agape Camp.

Fall and Spring Picnic

Every year during the spring and early fall seasons, all members of Richmond Milal Mission go on a picnic together. It is a time of rest and refreshment for individuals with disabilities who live in group homes and for those who experience the repetition of daily routines. On picnic days, many supporters generously sponsor barbecue and various foods for the individuals with disabilities at Richmond Milal Mission.

Semester Orientation

One week before the beginning of each Milal semester, a training session is held for general volunteers. During this orientation, volunteers learn about individuals with disabilities, how to wisely respond to various situations, and are reminded once again of the purpose and mission of Milal ministry.

Fundraising

Every year starting in March, we prepare a mushroom bazaar fundraiser to help cover summer camp expenses. First, official notices are sent to churches to determine demand. Then, Richmond Milal volunteers personally travel to mushroom farms to pick up the mushrooms and distribute them to participating churches. The churches then hold mushroom bazaars and donate the proceeds to Richmond Milal Mission.

All funds raised through the mushroom bazaar are used for the summer camp expenses of both individuals with disabilities and volunteers, including camp fees, snacks, and travel expenses.

Richmond Milal Semester Closing Ceremony

During the Richmond Milal semester closing ceremony, individuals with disabilities present the President’s Volunteer Service Award and certificates of completion to the volunteers who faithfully served throughout the semester. Many supporters who have supported the ministry throughout the semester are also invited as a time of appreciation. Senior pastors from various churches attend as honored guests and encourage the gathering with their presence.

It is also a time to reflect on how much growth and change took place among the individuals with disabilities and volunteers throughout the semester through presentations and videos.

Milal & World

“Milal & the World” is a monthly newsletter that shares ministry updates from each branch, financial reports, news about individuals with disabilities, and testimonies from volunteers. Approximately 150 copies are mailed each month to supporters, churches, and local businesses.

Closing Worship Service & Christmas Party

At the end of the year, we gather together to celebrate and remember the birth of Jesus Christ. It is a joyful time of sharing gratitude, gifts, and fellowship with individuals with disabilities and volunteers alike.

Support for Miami Milal

In 2018, Richmond Milal Mission began supporting the Miami Milal branch, which had newly partnered with Milal Mission to begin disability ministry work. Throughout the year, Richmond Milal provided $100 monthly support as well as 50 copies of the “Milal & the World” newsletter each month.
